What to Wear When You Have Pink Hair
I began my journey into rainbow dyed hair when I was 13 and obsessed with the idea of being a raver. While I was too young to actually attend any raves, I did manage to dress the part. I started with velvet violet Manic Panic hair dye. That, in addition to my oversized orange chunky chain and wide legged jeans, made me look legit. I was definitely a poseur.
That was nearly two decades ago so I have some authority on the topic. I promise you my suggestions do not reflect my teenage sense of style but rather a refined list of suggestions on what to wear when you have pink hair.

WHAT CAN I WEAR WITH PINK HAIR?
People are hesitant to dye their hair wild colours for a plethora of reasons. There is always the excuse of workplace standards among other justifications to hold off. Although this may be true in some cases, it’s the fear of not knowing what to wear when you have pink hair or any other dyed colour for that matter that is the real roadblock.
This post is designed to help you approach picking outfits with more ease by following a couple of specific approaches,
WHAT COLORS GO WITH PINK HAIR?
My personal mindset is that ANY color can go together if styled correctly. But if you want to be on the safe side, consulting a color wheel is the way to go.
For traditional colour combinations you can choose either complimentary colours OR analogous colours to pair with pink.
COMPLIMENTARY COLORS
The most popular colour combinations are complimentary, you see them all the time. They’re used for sports teams and major holidays. For instance: yellow + purple, orange + blue, red + green.
COMPLIMENTARY COLORS OF PINK
Complimentary colours enhance each others vibrancy and make the opposite shade POP. These colours are always directly across from each other on the colour wheel. So the complimentary colour for pink hair would be a bright green. With this combination, you could take inspiration from a watermelon or really anything Barbie wore in the 90s.
Another way to think of it is pairing a warm colour with a cool colour. In this case, pink being the warm and bright green being the cool.
ANALOGOUS COLORS
A lesser known colour combination (perhaps because the name doesn’t feature alliterative assonance nor is it as easy to remember) is analogous. This is the name for the neighbouring colours on either side. Rather than the eye popping effect that complimentary colours have, analogous are thought to be more calming and aesthetically pleasing.
ANALOGOUS COLORS OF PINK
For pink, the adjacent colours are red and purple though not a true purple but rather a mauve. Check out my outfit with pink hair and a red Moto jacket for analogous inspiration.
OTHER COLOR COMBINATIONS TO TRY WITH PINK HAIR
BRIGHT WHITE WITH PINK HAIR
Let’s begin with some musical inspiration to kick off this journey. May I suggest looking no further than the famous scene from Funny Face. Think Pink! Alright, now that we know that the answer to all of life’s large questions is without a doubt PINK, we can delve in. You have dyed your hair pink so there is no reason to hide it. You should make it pop by wearing a colour like white. It will stand out and make the pink look even more vibrant. It’s an in real life optical illusion that I swear by. I especially love wearing my textured yeti coat to add a secondary element of pizazz to the overall look.
MONOCHROMATIC OUTFITS
Might I suggest going full Jolly Green Lady of Brooklyn and ensconcing your whole existence in the colour pink? Forget not buying anything new for one year! Why don’t you challenge yourself to only wear one colour? Pink, of course. Now that would be a blog I would follow religiously.
UPDATE: upon further research their is also a Pink Woman of Hollywood. She is pinktacular goals. I’ve even tried a lite version of monochromatic in this outfit post with my pink hair and light pink coat.

THE FULL COLOUR SPECTRUM
If you embrace your pink hair, you should embrace the spectrum of the rainbow too. We’re all going to die eventually…. or dye our hair another colour so why not lean in to loud looks?
Today I wore a red plaid jacket that screamed mismatched with my hair, but I decided I was power clashing the pink hair next to the red plaid coat. Suddenly, through my rose tinted shades, the colour combination began to make perfect sense. Though, to be fair it would be analogous if the plaid coat wasn’t such an orange leaning red.

PINK HAIR IS FOR EVERYONE
What to wear when you have pink hair = whatever makes you feel completely awesome.
You will already be catching eyes with your vibrant mane so might as well give them something to really feast their eyes upon. With that said, this is not a hair colour for the wallflower or faint of heart. But I truly believe it’s for anyone, anytime, of any age.

Please please please help! In approximate 18 hrs I will be heading to a Wedding. So I bleached and dyed my hair Lucios Raspberry color…it looks red but it came out pink. I am so upset. The worse part is that I’m wearing a elegant blue dress…what can I do last minute? The pink is just pink. Please help.

Personally, I think pink hair would look gorgeous with an elegant blue dress 🙂 Whenever I’m trying out a dye for the first time, I always test it on a small piece of my hair in a hidden spot in case it isn’t the colour I want. I hope you had a wonderful time at the wedding!
uhh, i’m kinda new to this, so would it look good if i have kind of a peachy rose gold but a little bit darker hair color, and also wear like maybe a litter pastel pink? i’ve heard that wearing the same color as your hair won’t look to good. like a light pink shirt or overalls, maybe even pinkish glasses. or maybe a pink skirt? idk. obvi not all together, but something like that? if not what color hair dye would you pair with it? i’m kinda looking for a color to dye my hair (and a COLORFUL color lol) i’m sorry if this was too long ;w;

Honestly, I am ALL FOR layering up of the same colour family for outfits. Monochrome is such a fun way to style your outfit with your hair. Another nice trick is to check out the colour wheel and see what the complimentary colour is to your dyed hair and create outfits for that as well! I am still replying to these! When my hair was pink, I found that I was able to wear everything I normally would. I think it comes down to choosing clothes that you love and make you feel confident vs trying to adhere to rules. That sounds really rad! What colour is the rest of your hair?
One of my favourite ways to dress when I have my hair dyed a fun colour is monochromatic. I love to lean into the colour in a real way. When my hair was blue, I wore a TON of blue and likewise with pink. If that feels like too much of one colour, I also recommend using a colour wheel and colour theory to guide your choices. So the complimentary colour of pink is green. You can also go with the neighbour colours to pink on the colour wheel like violet or red. But in my true opinion, I think you can wear whatever you like – wear what makes you feel like your raddest self.

JUST GO FOR IT!!! If you end up not liking it, it’s a pretty easy fix. My pink washed out and faded to cotton candy pretty quick.
Certainly. I always have my hair pink and I’m 72…….lol but I don’t care. My daughter loves that about me. I do all kinds of things to my hair I’m never frightened to do anything to my hair. I just love to see the outcome and if I don’t like it, well I try another colour. Pink is my favourite. In fact I’m going to dye it pink right now xx

I recently dyed my hair pink. It didn’t come out as I planned, but I’m ok with it actually. Only problem is, I don’t know what to wear now. I took artic fox’s Electric Paradise and mixed it with Frose. It was supposed to be bubblegum pink, but instead picked up a lot of the bright oranges tones that was in the Electric Paradise. I know black looks pretty cool with my hair, but do you have any suggestions on other colors I can wear that would compliment my hair?

Hi! Thanks so much for your comment. Since it’s more of an orangey pink, I would suggest blues. Since blue is the complementary colour of orange, it will really make your hair POP. But purple would be great too.

You’re never too old for pink hair. The idea of being “too old” is a social construct. We have one life (as far as I know) so might as well fill it with the things that bring us joy…. and sometimes that means dying our hair pink ❤️

Hi, I am 58, I have been dying my hair, which is naturally white/grey now, purple and lately, I fell for pink. I love it and my friends and family say it makes my face look younger and my skin brighter. I’m a punk rock fan, so I really enjoy coloring my hair with fancy colors. I only use color depositing shampoos, vegan and cruelty free. It washes out quite nicely to a cute pale pink in the end. Let’s say 8 to 10 washes. These colored shampoos don’t damage your hair, instead it pampers them with natural ingredients. Go for it. Enjoy the head turning colors.

I dyed my hair with under layered pink. I’ve always wanted to dye a colorful ones but until now that I really got the chance. My parents and friends said it was to bright, which made me feel a bit regret. I even tried to hide it with my top black hair.
