Abbotsford Tulip Festival

VISITING THE ABBOTSFORD TULIP FESTIVAL
After a long winter, visiting The Abbotsford Tulip Festival is a feast for the eyes. The sea of vibrant colours in the middle of the Fraser Valley is a technicolour experience to celebrate the arrival of spring. And if the Netherlands are too far away to visit, this dreamy field in BC is a great option in lieu.
UPDATE 2023
As of 2021, the Abbotsford Tulip Festival has permanently closed up shop and relocated to Armstrong, BC with plans of eventually opening in the Okanagan. However, down the road is the Chilliwack Tulip Festival so the Fraser Valley will still be dotted with the rainbow blooms this spring.

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
- Should the weather be on the wet side, I would recommend wearing much more sensible footwear like rainboots. The paths are made of straw but it will get mucky.
- For a quieter experience, go on a weekday. This makes a huge difference for wait times and parking. Also if taking photographs without people in the background is a top priority, then this is extra important. Going early is a good move too.

A WORLD OF TULIPS
There were a number of different varieties of tulips throughout the festival. A few that I spotted were the classic single late, parrots, lily flowered, and double. I am not a flower expert by any means, I’ll happily snap a photo and use google lens to identify a plant (though it’s not always the most accurate). Some of my favourites were the (see photo below) which have a peony-like quality to them. I was hoping to see some of the double tulip, but I must have not been looking in the right place.
