Kødbyens Fiskebar Copenhagen
Josh almost had a heart attack when his reservation at Noma got messed up. I could see the fear and disappointment in his eyes, however, being the suave silver tongued dandy man he is, he finagled a reservation later in the week. The Robbie Williams look-a-like maître d’ suggested Kødbyens Fiskebar which turned out to be a taste sensation all on it’s own. File this under a happy accident.

the location
The walk to Kødbyens Fiskebar was supposed to take 15 minutes but we managed to make it a cool 45 instead. Somewhere along the way we missed a turn. If I didn’t know before, I certainly am well aware now that street signs are a bit challenging to read in the dark. Especially when Danish is not your first language. In any case, we arrived in the meatpacking district of Copenhagen to a unremarkable looking strip mall. Looks can truly be deceiving as this turned out to be a memorably delightful meal.

what we ate
If you are not a seafood fan, this might not be your first choice place to eat. However, it is THE FRESHEST nautical feast of splendour I have ever had. Here is a highlight reel of the dishes.

Mussels in steamed cider and herbs.

Razor clams with fennel cream

Cod with jerusalem artichokes and buckwheat puree

brill with seaweed butter puree

an assortment of nordic cheese

DESSERT
For a makeshift birthday cake we picked up a box of chocolates from the world famous chocolatier, Peter Beier Chokolade. It was incredible. I highly recommend the dark chocolate hearts, the dark chocolate chili flake balls, and the dark chocolate pyramids. (Is there a pattern forming here? I love dark chocolate… anything milk seems like it’s been watered down). Wish we had bought more to take home.

Kødbyens Fiskebar
Absolute food coma after all of that! Fortunately we were able to find our way back to the Hotel Fox without making a wrong turn. If you’re in Copenhagen, definitely make a point of stopping by for a meal.
