Walking Around Copenhagen in the Winter

WALKING AROUND COPENHAGEN
Oddly enough walking around Copenhagen in the winter is eerily similar to Edmonton but only in the sense of the temperature. Everything else is infinitely better. People watching, architecture, heated sidewalks, and excellent places to eat are just a few of the elevated experiences. The best way to get a feel for a new place is by walking around aimlessly. After we checked into the Hotel Fox, these are some of the things we saw on our chilly stroll.

COPENHAGEN’S COLOUR PALETTE
Copenhagen might has this magical continuity about it. The common thread that ties all the individual elements together seems to be the colour palette. The pops of mint from the plethora of oxidized copper paired with burnt umber lamp posts and natural stone everywhere creates a cohesion amongst the beautiful chaos. Maybe this is what it feels like to live in a Wes Anderson movie?

YEAR ROUND CYCLING
One aspect of the city that I adore is the emphasis on bicycles. Much like Amsterdam, cyclists are prioritized as there are plenty. These Danes are hardy folk. The January weather is slushy, cold, and windy out yet they still cruise around on their bicycles as if it were summer. I cannot imagine that in Edmonton and I’m envious of the lifestyle.

WINTER IN COPENHAGEN
On a complete sidenote, this is my 200th blog post. How is that even possible? Dare I say that I’m surprised by my commitment to this space. Here’s to the next 200, which will definitely include a few more dispatches from Denmark!
Toodles,
