Last Chance Saloon
After having attended the most magical wedding at the Last Chance Saloon in June, I knew I had to return and stay at the Rosedeer Hotel. The western kitschiness paired with the rugged badlands of Southern Alberta could not be beat.
SOUTHERN ALBERTA ROAD TRIP
Last month my best friend flew into town from Toronto for a few days which was a real treat. Out of the 365 days of the year, we maybe see each other 10 of them, if we’re lucky. With the limited time we had, it was decided that we would go on a quick road trip to check out a few top shelf spots in Alberta (which included two UNESCO World Heritage Sites NBD – travel scrapbook on the way).
THE ROSEDEER HOTEL
We checked into the cowboy themed room at the Rosedeer Hotel, a supposedly haunted old roadhouse inn in Wayne, Alberta. It’s only a short drive from Drumheller through a canyon with a twisting stream through it and 11 magical bridges that cross over the water at various points. It’s the perfect scenery for a Tom Mix cowboy film.

THINGS TO DO IN WAYNE ALBERTA
Upon arrival, we made the novice mistake of going on a dusk hike (which is apparently when rattlesnakes are most active) all the way up the hill behind the hotel to ring a bell. The view was incredible, the mosquitoes were relentless. In addition to that, there’s also a cemetary in the town. We never made it there but it’s on my list for next time.
VISITING THE LAST CHANCE SALOON
This 1913 mine town roadhouse is worth checking out, even if only for a quick day trip from Drumheller. Add it to the must see Southern Albertan treasures.
