Palm Springs Magic Hour

Palm Springs
Magic Hour
Chasing the last of the sun as it dips behind the mountains in the Coachella Valley is an exercise in madness I have taken part in with greater frequency each year it seems. One minute it’s golden and the next it’s a slow gradation of warm blues. Desert sunsets are unreal with their mixture of muted pastels and the fading glow from the sun. The sunsets in the Palm Springs area should be savoured on every visit. (I should really add it to my list of Things to do in Palm Springs.) Keep scrolling for a list of my favourite spots to catch the Palm Springs Magic Hour.

VINTAGE IN THE DESERT
I’ve been patiently waiting to wear this vintage jacket in the desert. The pale brown suede mirrored the endless sand dunes across the road from us in Rancho Mirage. Earth tone outfits in the desert seem to be my go-to (like my ZOEasis Coachella Party look for instance.) Though this jacket has appeared numerous times on my blog that is might be familiar to you already – see Historic Lowell Arizona post.

BEST MAGIC HOUR PLACES IN PALM SPRINGS
There are a few spots that elevate the already magical magic hour in Palm Springs and these are a few of them:
1. Palms to Pines Scenic Byway – there are a number of gorgeous vistas to pull over onto along the way with a great vantage point of the entire Coachella Valley.
2. Cabazon Dinosaurs – have a real life Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure moment at these massive kitschy dinosaurs at the side of the road.
3. San Gorgonio Pass Wind Farm – this iconic wind farm strip is the first sign that you’re nearing Palm Springs. It looks cool any time of day to be honest.
4. Keys View Joshua Tree – Technically this is not in PS HOWEVER, the view from Keys overlooks the valley all the way to the Salton Sea! And it’s a lovely day trip from Palm Springs too.
