THINGS TO DO IN PALM SPRINGS
Winter in Canada has a tendency to drag on in an endless manner and because of that, I prefer to escape the weather a couple times throughout the dreary season. My favourite quick getaway is to Palm Springs. It’s relatively close, it’s warm, and the mid-century modern design is a feast for my eyes; I never tire of that town! Here are a few of my favourite things to do in Palm Springs. [You can find this outfit post here: Palm Springs Magic Hour]

LUNCH AT THE PARKER

GREAT SHAKES
A milkshake from Great Shakes is a must – they come with a mini doughnut around the straw for goodness sake! Grab one of these for your stroll through downtown Palm Springs. There’s great people watching, excellent vintage stores, and of course the museum. In addition to that, there are a few modernist buildings to appreciate along the main strip.

BOOTLEGGER TIKI
One does not experience the true Palm Springs “martini lifestyle” without going to a lounge that evokes the essence of mid century kitsch. Bootlegger Tiki is just that. If darkened lounges aren’t your idea of a desert getaway, they do have a patio and their mojitos are exceptional.

MOORTEN BOTANICAL GARDEN
This little gem is just up the road from the Ace Hotel (walking distance!) It is precisely the roadside attraction that one would expect from the golden era of Palm Springs. Desert botanical life is fascinating – how do all these plants survive such harsh conditions? Bask in their glory here. My personal favourites are the old man cactus and flowering bougainvillea. (Still trying to figure out how I can grow one at home.)

KING’S HIGHWAY Diner
King’s Highway is the retro diner attached to the Ace Hotel & Swim Club. The decor and architecture is like stepping into a time machine, they have embraced the original architecture and design. This diner however, has an elevated menu of the classics dishes from greasy spoons. Have a late breakfast and walk over to the Moorten Botanical Garden – that is a perfect day to me.

JUST DRIVING AROUND
It’s undeniable that Palm Springs is an attractive place to visit. I could spend days driving to each and every architecturally significant home, and there are many! The Kaufmann House (original site of Poolside Gossip!), Liberace’s grand mid century manor, and even Elvis’ honeymoon home. There is an excess of excellent pedigree modernist homes that weren’t inhabited by famous people that are equally stunning to see. And if architecture isn’t your bag baby, well might I offer you these sunset views that are worth driving around to look at too.
