Part Time Punk
Back in my younger days I was deeply into the punk subculture. I’ve made no efforts to hide this fact over the years on my blog as I’ve mentioned it and even outright celebrated it on numerous occasions. From my punk makeup livejournal makeup tutorial, wearing old band tees to Hot Plains Music Fest, and even making it a halloween costume one year too, there’s always a bit of alternative lurking around here.

As the years pass, my style continues to evolve but every so often I feel the pull of my old clothes. To say I’m a part time punk is probably generous. It’s much rarer like a leap year without a full moon in February.

I Schwartz Punk Skirt
This whole outfit came about because of a skirt I got in grade 8 that I wanted to revisit in my 30s. Yes, I have kept it this long and I’m glad I did because I cannot find ANY information about it whatsoever. Never would I have been able to replace it had I tossed it. Once again my inability to get rid of things proves to be an asset.

The lime green skirt features screen printed punk band logos, photos, and random words. It was purchased in 2000 at Divine Decadence, which was a local alternative shop. In addition to new clothing of every subculture, they sold vintage and had a piercing shop too. This skirt was one of the new items available and I recall that there was also a version of pants with the same print but on black fabric.

The brand is called I Schwartz and aside from people posting on a vintage tag forum about the brand and the possibility of duped vintage tees, I have so far not been able to find much else. Though this was a cursory search so I will definitely be revisiting this topic. I’m now curious about this fashion mystery!

Two Toned Classic Vans
Another styling choice I used to make as a teen was wearing two different colours of the same shoe at once. Back then I was wearing Converse All-Stars high tops but this time around I preferring Authentic Vans in classic black and red. To me, it pulls all the elements of the outfit together in a cohesive way by not committing to a singular central colour.
I could have easily gone with red but that feels expected and plain black is too safe, y’know? This may be the point in which I’m accused of thinking too much about shoe selection and you wouldn’t be wrong.

Photos by Levi
This outfit was shot by my pal Levi Manchak, who was the perfect person to capture this look. It’s rare that I trust dude photographers because they’re largely not great people, Levi however is a real gem of a guy. His live music photography is next level too. Check out his IG here. Also, I would be remiss not to mention Jessica Kyca, his wife who is a phenomenal fiber artist. I adore her work!!!!

2021 Outfit Addendum
The above outfit was shot in 2018 and I am JUST getting around to posting it. No need to ask what is wrong with me, I already know. I’m a digital content hoarder who makes things faster than I have ever been able to post them. That paired with perfectionism is a helluva combo. As per my 2025 goals, I’m working through the backlog.
Anyway, here’s an addendum that I self shot in 2021 to the original outfit.

Outfit Details
SUNGLASSES – Cat eye sunglasses – c/o ALDO
TOP – Thrifted striped mock neck shirt
JACKET – Thrifted suede moto jacket
SKIRT – I Schwartz screen printed skirt via my teenage closet
BAG – Ceramic heart handbag – Betsey Johnson
SHOES – Mid calf boots – Doc Martens

Alternative Version Outfit
The first version is still my favourite however, if I could do it over again, I would have included my ceramic heart Betsey Johnson purse in the look. As for the footwear, the two toned VANS are far superior to the Docs in my opinion. But it’s always worth experimenting because you never know when you might unlock a new style preference.
