One of my top East London eateries is the lovely St John Bread and Wine. They have multiple locations but this one is particularly close to my heart. Not only is it so close to our flat, but it’s also one of my favourite places to get bread. Located on Commercial Street across from Spitalfields market (another place I adore) it’s relaxed yet refined. And earlier this year we spotted the owner in the wild, the infamous Fergus Henderson browsing a cook shop in Paris. Quietly we joked to ourselves by saying “WE LOVE YOUR WORK, maannn!” over and over again. No, we did not approach him. We’re not COMPLETE weirdos.

the dinner

Donning my new 18 and East dress I picked up at 1234 Shoreditch festival, we made our way over for a tasty dinner. We shared a smattering of dishes. Pictured above:
Peas and Ticklemore (what a great name.)
Crispy Pig’s Skin & Radishes
Potato, Sea Purslane & Boiled Egg

Dessert

My favourite part of the dinner was the dessert, of course. There is nothing like Eton Mess – meringue, strawberries and whipped cream. It’s the perfect combination of all things sweet and good. If I can’t get it from St. John Bread and Wine, I will settle for a Montezuma’s Eton Mess chocolate bar. They’re conveniently located across the road in Spitalfield’s Market.
