Wallace Idaho Fall Road Trip Vlog

WALLACE IDAHO FALL ROAD TRIP VLOG
Is this post about my Wallace Idaho Fall Road Trip Vlog grossly overdue and tardy? Yes. Timeliness is not my strong suit as evidenced by the delay. With that our of the way, Wallace is a town we stumbled upon by accident when driving home from Gabriola Island summer of 2019. Though we weren’t able to stop long, we made a plan to return the following fall. That road trip took us to Bozeman Montana to visit Yellowstone, then to Wallace, and finally Spokane Washington. The loop is a simple route from Alberta so I recommend it to anyone nearby!

THE ENTIRE TOWN OF WALLACE IS A HISTORICAL SITE
One of the first things you notice upon arrival is the bizarre curved freeway that feels misplaced. As with many oddities one encounters when travelling, this too had a great story behind it. Wallace is a mining town with a strong union and sense of community. When the residents were told of plans for the interstate to rip the town apart, they took action. Each building was individually designated a historical site which protects them from being demolished. The government was forced to build the interstate around the town as to not disturb any buildings with the exception of the train station. It moved a few yards from its original location at the state’s expense and I love that tidbit.

VISIT THE WORLD’S LARGEST SILVER PRODUCER
Without a doubt a mine tour is a must when in Wallace Idaho. Our guide was a local miner with excellent stories. Lastly, I especially recommend visiting during the fall months because the weather was perfection. In addition to that, the whole town has a Twin Peaks autumn pacific northwest vibe to it. And something about fall in the PNW says Twin Peaks to me. Plus the changing leaves were gorgeous.
