90s Summer Playlist (All Genres)

POV: It’s 11am on a midweek morning and you have nothing but a responsibility-less day ahead of you. It’s summer and life is good. Your mom just bought a flat of Orbitz from Costco. It’s a variety pack of the texturally enhanced alternative beverage and you know the best flavour, Blueberry Melon Strawberry, is going to go quickly if you don’t beat your sister to it. 

You slip on your terry cloth Gap matching separates and race downstairs. It’s time for a day bouncing on the trampoline with friends listening to the latest CDs you got. (Also from Costco… or HMV who even knows.) Green Day Dookie, Alanis Morissette Jagged Little Pill and of course the Spice Girls just to even it out.

Back then I never could have dreamed of making an infinite playlist of my favourite music, mp3 players were in the distant horizon at that point. My younger self would have been blown away with this comprehensive Ultimate 90s Summer Playlist so I made it with her in mind.

Nostalgia Mode Activated

When I think of the ultimate pinnacle of summertime feelings, it always brings me back to the halcyon days of the 90s. A time before I had any responsibilities of consequence beyond the usual child variety. I could browse fashion magazines and daydream about my reinvention for the new school year. 

Was I influenced by the proliferation of “makeover” montages in popular movies of the time? Absolutely yes. Who amongst us didn’t obsess over Cher Horowitz’s closet? The cheap thrills of biking by my crush’s house and dinging my bicycle bell or having the uninterrupted hours to learn how to ollie on a skateboard in the parking lot of my school. SIGH.

Music That Makes Me Feel Alive

This digital mixtape is over 76 hours long of 90s music to whisk you away to a time when baggy cargo pants, baby tee’s, and bucket hats reigned supreme! Though, that sounds almost contemporary at the moment. With that said, if you’re like me, I hope this 90s Summer Playlist boosts your serotonin levels as high as when you discovered Edge Fest was coming to your town.

Feel free to let me know what your peak 90s memories are, I am fueled by nostalgia. For best results set the playlist to shuffle. (And yes, there are some songs from the late 80s and early 2000s – all of which were still playing on the radio from my recollection).
