Badlands Style

BADLANDS STYLE
A short drive south of Edmonton takes you to a drastically different climate than the expected fields of the prairies. As the hills begin to roll, the prairies disappear and an arid desert emerges. I haven’t kept my love of the desert a secret, in fact, I’m positive I’ve spoken at length about how magical the Yucca Valley in California is. Naturally, I had to capture both the rugged terrain as well as my badlands style.

11 BRIDGES / WAYNE / DRUMHELLER
I think I may have found a Canadian substitute for my beloved Joshua Tree in Wayne, Alberta. 11 bridges criss crossing over a winding river leads you to the Last Chance Saloon which opened in 1913 (and is rumored to be haunted!). The desert’s draw is strong and I will definitely be heading back down there if only to stay in a themed room at the Rosedeer Hotel. Any excuse to wear cowboy boots I will take.

THRIFTED COWBOY BOOTS

Finding these nearly new vintage black cowboy boots while thrifting was thrilling! The only downside is having to break them in which is a lot easier said than done. They certainly look great though and the price was right.

BADLANDS STYLE
And that’s my simple take on badlands style so cue the Bruce Springsteen and start planning your wardrobe for your next desert trip. While you’re at it, check out my favourite vintage store, The End in Yucca Valley.
