A Halloween Wedding

A Halloween Wedding
This past October my sister had a halloween wedding – a theme that is beyond fitting for her. Ever since I can remember she has obsessed over all things creepy so this didn’t come as a surprise to anyone. And quite frankly, I think everyone enjoyed themselves so much more by being incognito in their costumes.

Halloween Wedding Costumes & Outfits
My sister Katie wore a stunning Vera Wang gown in the shade of her heart – blacker than a moonless night. And unlike traditional wedding gowns, she will actually be able to rewear it. Beneath the layers of tulle were studded platform Christian Louboutin’s. Her look was completed with molded leather masks and a rhinestone skeleton hand necklace.

My Bridesmaid Outfit Meltdown
My outfit did not come together as seamlessly as Katie’s. A few meltdowns transpired before settling on this particular combination. Despite one of my guy friends insisting the bustier my sister had picked out was, in fact, transparent I didn’t bother to really inspect it until two days before. Classic.

With my room scattered in rejected garments, I finally committed to this ensemble. My skirt was hiked up and belted with quilt binding to create a makeshift dress. Feeling it was missing that certain something, I frantically sewed a last minute doily bolero to tie it all together.

My nips were nowhere to be seen! That wonderful rosary and skirt/dress were from The Tattered Rose. A store I could easily spend hours in poking around touching all the luxurious frothy frocks that line the walls. It’s like stepping into Pamela Des Barres Boudoir which is, in my opinion, hallowed ground.

I opted for flats so I could dance the night away without worrying about twisting my ankle. I’m well past my days of feeling fine going barefoot on the dancefloor.

Halloween Wedding Decor
The fun thing about a halloween wedding is that the decor isn’t overly expensive. The second you attach the word “wedding” to a gathering, the price of everything goes up exponentially. Is there some sort of wedding tax put upon everything that I’m not aware of? Yes, there’s extra pressure put upon vendors to make everything *perfect* but not every couple demands that level of exactitude. (Just another reason to add to my ever growing list of why I don’t want to get married.)

If, like my sister, you know you want a Halloween wedding, I suggest collecting the decor in the off season or when it goes on sale. It’s amazing the items you can find on Kijiji and other second hand markets too. My favourite is coming across vintage Halloween Blow Molds in the summertime.
Halloween Wedding Guest Costumes
Some people despise costume parties; I am not one of them. Surprisingly, everyone was a good sport and actually dressed up in costume for the halloween wedding. And it made it that much more fun, especially when trying to figure out who was who.

For every classic witch or vampire, there was another guest who took it to the next level. From tacky tourists complete with blinding camera flashes to the zombie golfer as seen above.
It was quite the undertaking helping my dad fake dye his eyebrows and moustache to complete his Gomez Addams costume. He was going for the original Addams Family TV series version of Gomez. I personally think he nailed it.

Need some costume inspiration? I have a whole Halloween section where I’ve put together a number of looks. From a 1970s Gumby outfit (it was very comfy), a creepy Beetlejuice look, to a thrifted Stevie Nicks costume. There’s even a devoted post to easy thrifted Halloween costumes.

Halloween Wedding Ceremony
The ceremony was purely for show as the wedding reception was held two days prior to Halloween. My sister wanted her actual anniversary to be the 31st of October. It was short and sweet without anyone waxing poetic with speeches so we could get down to the good bits: food and dancing.

The day following the hall party, we flew off to Vegas so they could be married by Elvis at the Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel. Side note: I do not recommend booking a flight for the DAY AFTER a wedding reception. It was beyond painful despite being a short flight.

Halloween Dance Party
Our dance party went on till the wee hours. Even the DJ was enjoying himself so much that he stayed longer than he was even supposed to. I guess when you throw a fun enough party, certain jobs cease to feel like work and the DJ was really killing it.

However, the following day I paid the consequences dearly while catching an early flight to Vegas. Too bad I was unaware of electrolytes at the time. But hey, at least my feet didn’t hurt!

Though the DJ didn’t play exclusively halloween music (that would have been weird) I have made a spooky halloween themed playlist just for fun.

A Halloween Wedding
This Halloween wedding was easily one of the best I’ve ever been to and that’s including traditional weddings! If you’re thinking about having one, I highly recommend it.

You look gorgeous anyway. Typical that you only realised a few days before the event, that's something I would do. xx almostdelightful.com
