Joshua Tree Style

Joshua Tree Style
Whenever I think of Joshua Tree Style, crushed velvet always comes up. Perhaps it’s because I associate the area with the 60s/70s California music scene. My first visit to Joshua Tree was spurred by reading “I’m With the Band” by Pamela Des Barres. She wrote about the desert oasis being beloved by Gram Parsons, The Rolling Stones, and the Byrds, among many others of course.

Since then, I’ve come to the conclusion that the unofficial fabric of the 1960s is velvet. We’re going to ignore the fact that polyester reigned supreme at that time since it does not pair well with magic hour like velvet does. That is fact.

CRUSHED VELVET PANTS
These crushed velvet pants could not be more perfect for the desert. My legs look like the stems of a cactus so I fit right in amongst the joshua trees, teddy bear cholla, and yucca. While they’re not vintage, they look like they could have been bought at The End vintage store in Yucca Valley. It’s worth checking out when visiting Joshua Tree.

Are you planning on being in the Yucca Valley anytime soon? Consider staying at Joshua Tree Inn like I did a few years ago. The property is quintessential Joshua Tree bohemia magic.

Don’t forget a copy of Pamela Des Barres “I’m With the Band” to get into the vibe of it all too. It’s an excellent vacation read regardless of destination. Finally, remember to pack your finest velvet for the ultimate Joshua Tree Style.

love love your desert looks, or should I call them- you’re ranger looks? 😉
Love this #lifegoal. I too want to visit as many cacti-filled parks and become a junior ranger. I’ve always fantasized about living at an old fire look out station. Scanning the horizon with binoculars and cooking all my food over a fire.
